Courses Studied at Fisher
As a Communication/Journalism Major with a minor in Marketing, I have taken courses that have allowed me to learn through hands on experience. Below is a list of the courses I have taken:
Senior Seminar- In this capstone course, I examined the nature and function of communication theory as it applies to the study of mass communication. Emphasis was placed on the study of theories and models, the process of communication research, the applications of theory, mass media law, media economics, media ethics, and media careers.
Advanced Video Production - With an emphasis on post-production, I learned how to use such programs as Final Cut Pro, LiveType, GarageBand, and DVD Studio Pro to complete my digital video projects. Also, for this class I managed social media for an academic conference in New York City (Joint Journalism Historians Conference), where I networked with industry professionals.
Television Production - I learned the various forms of prime time television production, including multiple-camera, single-camera, and hybrid. I learned different styles to pitch their my own original television program and produce episodes in which they will write, cast, direct, shoot, perform, and edit. Also, for this class I managed social media for an academic conference in New York City (Joint Journalism Communication and Historians Conference), where I networked with industry professionals.
Sport and Social Media - Examined how and why sports fans make connections to favorite sports, teams, athletes and experts through social media at all levels. Also coordinated a Heisman winning campaign for Robert Griffin III. (http://www.facebook.com/RGIIIBU)
International Marketing - This course prepared me to think about the global marketplace. The international aspects of marketing management as well as marketing in different countries were also covered.
Buyer/Consumer Behavior - This course helped me understand the study of human behavior as it relates to the consumption of goods and services. An understanding of customer needs and how customers make decisions about fulfilling those needs is vital to the success of any marketing effort.
Journalism Writing and Reading - I was taught what makes events newsworthy, basic research and reporting skills, and gained experience in journalistic-style writing.
Spanish 102, 103 - Typically, language wouldn't make someones list of what is one of the most important courses they took during college. However, during my stay at Fisher, Spanish taught me about the cultures in Mexico, Spain, and other Spanish speaking countries, as well as basic conversational Spanish.
